ANIMAL HUSBANDRY

  • Enhanced growth*
  • Improved feed conversion*
  • Increased safety in Urea blocks
  • Better stabling and transport
  • Malodour control
  • Effluent management
Fine powdered Castle Mountain Zeolite has been shown in independent, controlled trials to increase animal growth rate and improve feed conversion in pigs and chickens.* Castle Mountain Zeolite is used in prepared rations for other animals, in supplements for horses and dogs, in commercial lick blocks for cattle (as a source of mineral nutrition and to increase safety in those containing urea). It is also under evaluation as an aid in the treatment of scours in pigs and diarrhoea in horses.

Addition of Castle Mountain Zeolite to the supplemental rations of ruminants would be expected to reduce methane emissions, considered to be a contributing factor to the generation of greenhouse gases.

Castle Mountain Zeolite sands are used widely for floor covering and in the treatment of stables, transport vehicles and in intensive animal holding enclosures. Marked reduction in ammonia emissions and reductions in fungal spores and bacteria significantly contribute to reduction in respiratory distress and infections in animals and improved OH & S conditions for staff.

In intensive animal production facilities, addition of Castle Mountain Zeolite to feed rations and/or to treatment of effluent reduces malodour, in particular that of ammonia and other nitrogen containing compounds of putrescence. Derived effluent containing Castle Mountain Zeolite is particularly effective as a natural fertilizer. (See also Agriculture & Horticulture)

* Castle Mountain Zeolite currently is sold under an APVMA permit as a feed additive. A full registration file is in preparation. Claims made above are based on derived data and/or observations and are specific to Castle Mountain Zeolite.
